    Multiple Sclerosis (MS) imposes significant burdens on patients, their families, and national healthcare systems particularly when there is a resource constraint. Proper prioritization and resource allocation are therefore essential for any effective disease management. Accordingly, we sought to assess the temporal profile of MS incidence over the past two decades in southeast Iran.

    A longitudinal design was employed using data from the Iranian multiple sclerosis registry system from March 2001 to March 2019 (n=6034). Annual age-standardized incidence rates of MS (cases of clinically isolated syndrome were also included) were calculated and the trend of incidence from 2001 to 2018 was analyzed.

    The age-adjusted incidence rate of MS raised from 1.72/100,000 in 2001 to 11.29/100,000 in 2018 (average of 18-year incidence rate was 6.30/100,000), indicating a notable rise in the incidence of MS (P-Value<0.001). However, the female to male ratio of 3.62 remained relatively stable during the study period.

    Our study suggests that, in Fars province, the incidence of MS has been remarkably rising over the past two decades. We recommend further studies to better understand the determinants of this pattern. Implementing effective policies in lowering the burden of MS is another important step in this regard.

    Cancer of the cervix is the second most common cancer in women globally, and it is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among women in developing countries such as Nigeria. The study assessed the knowledge, attitude and perception on cervical cancer screening among women attending ante-natal clinic in Owerri West, south eastern Nigeria.

    This cross-sectional study was conducted using a random sampling technique among 231 respondents attending ante-natal clinic in a cluster of 4 selected public primary healthcare centres. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, and data obtained was analysed using a descriptive technique, while the chi-square test was used to test for the influence of age and education level on cervical cancer screening.

    The result showed that there was a high level of awareness (68.8%) of cervical cancer screening. The majority of women (122 (52.8%)) received this information from friends. Although the majority of the participants had heard about the screening, few oening outcome. Age and level of education are significant factors of screening for cervical cancer. Educational programmes encouraging participation in cervical cancer screening should consider involving the use of close peers and friends to educate the women on the importance of screening program.

Given this situation, in this review, we highlight the updated findings of research investigating the impact of cellular senescence on COVID-19 complications and explored potential therapeutic targets for eliminating senescent cells during the COVID-19 pandemic.This study aimed to characterize chemotherapy-induced transient increase and surge of CA 19-9 level to treatment response in patients with advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). A retrospective case series was performed of advanced PDAC patients treated with first-line chemotherapy at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center from Jan 2017 to May 2020. CA 19-9 surge was defined as an increase of >20% from baseline followed by a >20% drop in one or more subsequent CA 19-9 levels compared to baseline. Out of 106 advanced PDAC patients, 38 were evaluable for CA 19-9 surge. Fourteen (51.9%) patients treated with FOLFIRINOX and 3 (27.3%) patients treated with nab-P + Gem chemotherapy demonstrated an early transient rise in CA 19-9 level. A CA 19-9 surge was documented in 9 (23.7%) patients, all with duration of surge lasting less then 16 weeks. Five out of 9 (55.6%) patients (4 FOLFIRINOX, 1 nab-P + Gem) with CA 19-9 surge demonstrated partial objective response rate on surveillance cross-sectional imaging. One patient (FOLFIRINOX) had stable disease, and 2 patients (1 FOLFIRINOX, 1 nab-P + Gem) were found to have disease progression after treatment interruption. The results of those interactions indicate that miR-200b may have an inhibitory impact on EMT or even in selected cases is able to restore epithelial phenotype.The aim of this study was to reveal the mechanism underlying the toxicity of TNT (trinitrotoluene), RDX (cyclotrimethylene trinitroamine), and HMX (cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine) explosives pollution in plants. Here, the effects of exposure to these three explosives were examined on chlorophyll fluorescence, antioxidant enzyme activity, and the metabolite spectrum in alfalfa (Medicago sativa) plants. The degradation rates for TNT, RDX, and HMX by alfalfa were 26.8%, 20.4%, and 18.4%, respectively, under hydroponic conditions. TNT caused damage to the microstructure of the plant roots and inhibited photosynthesis, whereas RDX and HMX induced only minor changes. Exposure to any of the three explosives caused disturbances in the oxidase system. Non-targeted metabolomics identified a total of 6185 metabolites. TNT exposure induced the appearance of 609 differentially expressed metabolites (189 upregulated, 420 downregulated), RDX exposure induced 197 differentially expressed metabolites (155 upregulated and 42 downregulated), and HMX induced 234 differentially expressed metabolites (132 upregulated and 102 downregulated). Of these differentially expressed metabolites, lipids and lipid-like molecules were the main metabolites induced by explosives poisoning. TNT mainly caused significant changes in the alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism metabolic pathways, RDX mainly caused disorders in the arginine biosynthesis metabolic pathway, and HMX disrupted the oxidative phosphorylation metabolic pathway. Taken together, the results show that exposure to TNT, RDX, and HMX leads to imbalances in plant photosynthetic characteristics and antioxidant enzyme systems, changes the basic metabolism of plants, and has significant ecotoxicity effects.
