We conclude that, through activating DRE-containing promoters, OsPP2C09 positively regulates the drought response regulon and activates an ABA-independent signaling pathway. This study aimed to examine the effects of three-months of classroom-based Brain Breaks Physical Activity Solution (Brain Breaks®) on attitudes toward physical activity levels of primary school children in Henan Province, China. The participants were 704 children enrolled in grades 3-5 who were randomly assigned to either an experimental or a control group. The experimental group participated in Brain Breaks® video intervention for 3-5 min daily, at low-to-moderate intensity for three consecutive months. The control group resumed their normal routine. The children’s attitudes in both groups towards physical activity (PA) were evaluated using the self-reported Attitudes toward Physical Activity Scale (APAS), before and after the intervention. The effects of the intervention on APAS scores were analyzed using mixed model analysis of variance with Time as within-subject, and Group as between-subject factors. The analysis revealed evidence in support of the positive effect of classroom video interventions such as Brain Break on children’s attitudes toward importance, fun, and trying to do their personal best in physical activity. Also revealed was the important role the teacher plays in this process. In recent years, studies of different properties of hybrid metal matrix composites, as well as very detailed issues, have been published. In this article, ready-made iron, graphite, and silicon carbide powders were used to produce the base material and composites. An analysis of some microstructural and mechanical properties, as well as the tribological behavior of metal matrix composites (MMCs), based on FeGr1 sintered material with the single and hybrid addition of a silicon carbide and graphite was undertaken. During the study, the flexural and compressive strength of MMCs were analyzed and changes of the momentary coefficient of friction, the temperature of friction, as well as wear rates of the MMCs tested were monitored. Based on the results, it was revealed that wear rates decreased 12-fold in comparison to the base material when SiC or SiC + Gr were added. Further research into MMCs with ceramic particle additives is proposed.Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A) plays an essential role in tumor-associated angiogenesis, exerting its biological activity by binding and activating membrane receptors, as vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 and 2 (VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2). In this study, serum VEGF-A, VEGFR-1, and VEGFR-2 levels were quantified in 50 cats with mammary carcinoma and 14 healthy controls. The expression of these molecules in tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and in cancer cells was evaluated and compared with its serum levels. Results obtained showed that serum VEGF-A levels were significantly higher in cats with HER2-positive and Triple Negative (TN) Normal-Like subtypes, when compared to control group (p = 0.001, p = 0.020). Additionally, serum VEGFR-1 levels were significantly elevated in cats presenting luminal A, HER2-positive and TN Normal-Like tumors (p = 0.011, p = 0.048, p = 0.006), as serum VEGFR-2 levels (p = 0.010, p = 0.046, p = 0.005). Moreover, a positive interaction was found between the expression of VEGF-A, VEGFR-1, and VEGFR-2 in TILs and their serum levels (p = 0.002, p = 0.003, p = 0.003). In summary, these findings point to the usefulness of VEGF-A and its serum receptors assessment in clinical evaluation of cats with HER2-positive and TN Normal-Like tumors, suggesting that targeted therapies against these molecules may be effective for the treatment of these animals, as described in human breast cancer.Cancer treatments frequently impair the reproductive ability of patients by damaging spermatogenesis. International guidelines recommend semen cryopreservation to preserve the fertility of oncological adult males and pubertal boys. However, due to the low usage rate of banked samples, not a lot of data on assisted reproductive treatments (ART) success rates in this population and follow-up data for children born are available in the literature. The aims of this study were to report our 15 years of experience, the clinical outcomes of ART as well as neonatal characteristics of babies born. We retrospectively reviewed 682 oncological patients who were referred to our center from 2004 to 2019 for fertility preservation. Over the years, only 26 patients (4%) returned to use their sperm by ART. They were survivors of leukemia and lymphomas (52%), testicular cancer (20%), and other malignant diseases (28%). These couples performed 45 cycles 34 intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) plus 11 frozen embryo transfers. A total of 13 children were born, with 35% of the cumulative live-birth delivery rate per couple. No stillbirths or malformations were recorded. These successful findings demonstrated that pregnancy could be safely achieved using frozen-thawed sperm of cancer survivors who cryopreserved before gonadotoxic therapies.Textile sensors have gained attention for wearable devices, in which the most popular are the resistive textile sensor. However, these sensors present high hysteresis and a drift when stretched for long periods of time. Inductive textile sensors have been commonly used as antennas and plethysmographs, and their applications have been extended to measure heartbeat, wireless data transmission, and motion and gesture capturing systems. Inductive textile sensors have shown high reliability, stable readings, low production cost, and an easy manufacturing process. This paper presents the design and validation of an inductive strain textile sensor. The anthropometric dimensions of a healthy participant were used to define the maximum dimensions of the inductive textile sensor. The design of the inductive sensor was studied through theoretical calculations and simulations. Parameters such as height, width, area, perimeter, and number of complete loops were considered to calculate and evaluate the inductance value. This study investigated psychosocial functioning and employment status in association with postdisaster major depression and its course in survivors of 11 different disasters in a sample of 808 directly-exposed survivors of 10 disasters and 373 survivors of the 11 September 2001 (9/11), terrorist attacks on New York City’s World Trade Center (total n = 1181). Participants were assessed between 1987 and 2007 with structured diagnostic interviews in a prospective longitudinal design. Consistent research methods allowed merging of the disaster databases for analysis using multivariate modeling. Postdisaster major depression in the study cohort from the 9/11 disaster was more than twice as prevalent as in the other disasters, possibly reflecting the greater psychosocial/interpersonal loss and bereavement experienced by 9/11 disaster survivors. At follow up, employment was associated with remission of postdisaster major depression, non-development of PTSD, and coping via family or friends. Functioning problems were associated with disaster injuries, but not with persistent major depression. This study is unprecedented in its large sample of survivors across the full range of disaster typology studied using consistent methods and full structured interview diagnostic assessment. These findings may help guide future interventions to address postdisaster depression.Lignin is the second most abundant natural biopolymer, which is a potential alternative to conventional fossil fuels. It is also a promising material for the recovery of valuable chemicals such as aromatic compounds as well as an important biomarker for terrestrial organic matter. Lignin is currently produced in large quantities as a by-product of chemical pulping and cellulosic ethanol processes. Consequently, analytical methods are required to assess the content of valuable chemicals contained in these complex lignin wastes. This review is devoted to the application of mass spectrometry, including data analysis strategies, for the elemental and structural elucidation of lignin products. We describe and critically evaluate how these methods have contributed to progress and trends in the utilization of lignin in chemical synthesis, materials, energy, and geochemistry. While early empiric antibiotic therapy is beneficial for patients presenting with sepsis, the presentation of sepsis from Clostridioides difficile (formerly Clostridium difficile) infection (CDI) has not been well studied in large cohorts. We sought to determine whether the combination of extreme leukocytosis and diarrhea was strongly predictive of CDI in a cohort of 8659 patients admitted to the intensive care unit. We found that CDI was present in 15.0% (95% CI, 12.1-18.3%) of patients with extreme leukocytosis and diarrhea and that mortality for those with CDI, diarrhea, and extreme leukocytosis was 33.8% (95% CI, 23.2-44.3%). These data support consideration of empiric treatment for CDI in unstable critically ill patients with extreme leukocytosis and diarrhea, along with treatment of other possible sources of sepsis as appropriate. Empiric treatment for CDI can usually be discontinued promptly, along with narrowing of other broad-spectrum antimicrobial coverage, if a sensitive C. difficile test is negative.Low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (LGMS) is a mesenchymal tumor of myofibroblasts that occurs more frequently in adults. A series of three cases is presented to illustrate that LGMS may also occur within the oral cavity in children and adolescents. The first case (Case 1) occurred intra-osseously in the mandible, while the remaining two presented as gingival swellings and were purely restricted to soft tissue (cases 2 and 3). The intra-osseous lesion arose in a 7-year-old girl, whereas the gingival lesions were observed in a 12-year-old girl (Case 2) and a 13-year-old boy (Case 3). Histopathologically, all cases were composed of spindle shaped cells arranged into long fascicles showing mild to moderate degree of nuclear atypia. Ki-67 (MIB-1) proliferation activity was relatively low, amounting to 3-5% in all cases. Immunohistochemically, all cases showed smooth muscle actin (SMA) positivity in spindle cells, while desmin, beta catenin, cytokeratin, and CD34 were negative, resulting in a diagnosis of LGMS. In conclusion, current series of three cases of LGMSs that occurred in the oral cavity in a child and two adolescent patients is presented to highlight an emerging disease that requires additional data for further characterization.Isoliquiritigenin (2′,4′,4-trihydroxychalcone, ISL), one of the most important bioactive compounds with a chalcone structure, is derived from licorice root. Licorice is commonly known as Glycyrrhiza, including Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Glycyrrhiza radix, and Glycyrrhiza glabra, which are generally available in common foods and Chinese herbal medicines based on a wide variety of biological functions and pharmacological effects, and its derivative (ISL) is utilized as a food additive and adjunct disease treatment. In this review, we summarized the progress over the last 10 years in the targeted pathways and molecular mechanisms of ISL that are involved in the regulation of the onset and progression of different types of cancers.
