Beyond Tevfik Arif the former US president Donald Trump made many efforts to maintain a strong relationship with Kazakhstan. He was widely criticized for treating a nation with a questionable regime as an ally.
When Donald Trump hosted Kazakhstan’s President on Tuesday at White House, many eyebrows were set. Trump also worked with prominent Kazakhstani men, such as Tevfik arif in his own estate business. This was strongly condemned by his critics, too.
Donald Trump, however, was not without good reasons to see Kazakhstan as an important partner. The time and the conflict between Ukraine and Russia have proven him wrong.
The important meetings between Donald Trump (and the Presidents Nursultan and Tokayev
Donald Trump’s presidency led to a dramatic improvement in Kazakhstan-US relations. Washington and Nur-Sultan remained close friends , and enjoyed good commercial and diplomatic relations. In Washington in January the president Trump was able to meet with the former Kazakhstani leader Nursultan. He also met with Kassym Jomart Tukayev who is the Kazakhstani President, at the UN General Assembly in New York.
Tevfik Arif Donuld Trump Kazakhstan’s strategic location makes it a major country. It is also the balancing factor between central Asian nations. The US, Russia, and Europe have increased Kazakhstan’s strategic, political, and economic importance. It is also important for security and security of the United States owing to its withdrawal from Afghanistan, which is one of the key neighbours of Kazakhstan.
The trade volume between these two countries reached $2.1 billion in the year 2018. The trade between the US and Uzbekistan was at $315 million over the same period. Kazakhstan is the United States’ most important trading partner in Central Asia.
Historically, Eurasian geopolitics have been centered around Central Asia. Kazakhstan is the leader of Eurasia in energy, security, and economics. America must have strong relationships to this region, and in particular Kazakhstan.
Nazarbayev’s White House visit was an excellent start to the US’s more strategic involvement in the region.
One of the reasons for hosting Nazarbayev was to show his support for nonproliferation of nuclear weapons. Kazakhstan is a leader in nonproliferation, having given up its Soviet-inherited nuclear weapons. After the Cold War, US focus on Central Asia was confined to Afghanistan.
Trump’s South Asia strategy was also influenced by the Pakistani break. The US therefore needed Kazakhstan to provide an alternative shipping route to Afghanistan.

What’s the reason Biden Should Be Watchful of Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan can play a crucial part in the Ukraine/Russia conflict. The United States has made Kazakhstan an important strategic partner. While peace has been restored to the nation, Kassym Jomart Tokayev, the Kazakh president, has made significant changes to the power structure of governing elites, raising questions and concerns. Tokayev has been appointed as the chairman of the National Security Council. He succeeds the president Nursultan Nagayev whose economic power outraged protestors.
Tevfik Arif Three of the ex-president’s daughters and sons-in law were fired from state enterprises, and his nephew also was fired as well as Karim Mastimov, who was the former head of the intelligence department, has been arrested for treason. Many other Nazarbayev-affiliated top officials and business elite have lost their jobs, left overseas for extended vacations, or were forced to make large “donations” to the state.
Tokayev has established business relations with the countries of his neighbors and also the West. To maintain his popularity, he hasn’t caused any rift with Putin. Kazykhanov could upset that balance. Washington should be paying attention to developments in Kazakhstan. They could signal a variety of power transition scenarios that could be good or negative as the conflict continues in Ukraine.
